Job Description
Providing programmer level support for organizations and companies who use Open Source platforms or build products based on them.
Support ranges from good advice on tools and techniques, creating tool chains, preparing and giving lectures, writing device drivers, building Linux board support packages, reviewing source code, professional supervision of other programmers, writing reference programs to demonstrate capabilities and APIs, building complete Open Source based solutions and generally providing a dependable and professional outside knowledge base on Open Source software at the highest level.
As resident hacker you will be required to allocate an average of 30% of the working time to becoming and staying a top notch hacker. This involves reading mailing lists, playing around with new software, participating as a developer in Open Source projects and drinking coffee (optional).
Requirements
- Applicants must be prepared to function in an environment that demands excellence in ANY activity, from writing a device driver to preparing lunch.
- Great people skills. Must be able to tell jokes.
- Ability to carry a task from start to finish on your own (asking questions is fine and encouraged, waiting for someone to lead you by the hand isn’t).
- Ability to both receive and provide feedback.
- Previous Open Source exposure – applicant should feel comfortable in grabbing a random source package from the web, compiling and installing it.
- One of the following: experience in kernel programming and/or embedded systems development.
- Working knowledge of C and at least one of Perl, Python, Bash or equivalent.
Advantages
- Active participation as programmer in an Open Source project – big advantage.
- Additional languages and different development paradigms (OO, Extreme)
- Experience with networking.
- Recovering BofH.
